These special people volunteer to serve on the Friends Board. Are they all busy people? You bet they are! But they freely give their time, talents and combined knowledge to enrich the Public Library community. If working with a great bunch of folks in your community to support the library's policies and programs sounds like that's for you, please contact Rory Flynn, or any Board Member, or the Library to join the Friends. Membership envelopes are also available at the check-out desk in the library.
How would it benefit me to become a member of the Friends Group? The benefits to you for joining include:
(1) Get priority on the waiting list for best sellers
(2) Get a seven-day check out on videos & DVD's instead of four days
(3) Get entrance to the Sneak-Preview night for the Book Sale, and
(4) Get a Newsletters mailed out to you quarterly
The FRIENDS of the Graves County Public Library have made significant contributions to the library and to the services we provide for the community. The FRIENDS have sponsored fall book sales, Children's Summer Reading Programs, and guest speakers from the Kentucky Humanities Council and various literacy groups.
Members of the FRIENDS support the library by donating $1000 yearly to help with the expenses for the children's Summer Reading Program. FRIENDS donated money to purchase a digital camera, a wireless sound system for guest speakers, a laminator, a copier/printer, a Power Point projector, two new hardwood computer desks, mats for the computer chairs, and two combination TV/VHS/DVD players for the library. Last year they purchased 4 folding tables for the meeting room, gave $500 to purchase audio cassettes and CD's, $1000 to apply to the lease program for books on CD's, and they set aside $1000 for next year's Summer Reading Program.
This year, the Friends purchased 11 new flat-screen computer monitors to update our computer workstations, and set aside $1500 for the 2007 children's Summer Reading Program. They also sponsored the Master Gardeners Series speakers Bud Qualk and Eileen Duobinis-Gray. Wow! WE LOVE OUR FRIENDS!
Want to become a member? Just call the library at 247-2911, or contact a Board Member. You can also print off the Membership Form (see above) online, fill it out, and bring it or mail it to the library!
