Janet Evanovich Read-A-Likes
If you like Janet Evanovich, try books by these authors
| Fans of Evanovich also appreciate Nancy Bartholomew's Mystery series featuring stripper/detective Sierra Lavotini. They may not be as outrageously funny, but they do include quirky secondary characters, fast pacing, snappy dialog, and a sassy heroine. Start with "The Miracle Strip." | Sarah Strohmeyer's Bubbles Yablonsky, is a hairdresser/reporter/sleuth, who emerges from Lehigh, Pennsylvania, to rival Stephanie Plum. Strohmeyer knows urban neighborhoods and uses them, as Evanovich does, to reveal a cast of quirky secondary characters. There's a little romance here and plenty of action, not to mention the requisite smart-mouthed dialog. |
| Another interesting series to try is Anthony Bruno's Loretta Kovacs novels, starting with "Devil's Food." Loretta has given up a more stressful law enforcement job to take on parole jumpers. There's humor, sassy dialog, action, and fast pacing, although the story sometimes has a slightly more serious tone. | Marne Davis Kellogg gives us a 50-something heroine, significantly older than Stephanie, but no less restrained. Lilly Bennett, a U.S. Marshall in a Wyoming tourist town, is outspoken, brash -- and wonderfully funny. The body count is higher in these Mysteries, but readers looking for a slightly older Stephanie will find much to satisfy them in this series. "Bad Manners" is the first. |
| Many readers talk about Stephanie's romantic entanglements and for those who want to pursue that appeal, Jennifer Crusie makes a good bet. Her smart-mouthed heroines are independent and outspoken, but they find themselves in outrageous situations, both humorous and sometimes dangerous, surrounded by a cast of quirky secondary characters. Try "Welcome to Temptation." |
